Viva Midnight Mass!

Midnight Mass was HOT! Literally! Hot cars, hot bikes, hot ladies, hot guys...oh yeah, and I over-heated (and almost fainted) just as the show was starting!

I had arrived late and was in a rush to set up! Unfortunately, being in a rush in close to 100 degree heat is not a good thing! Luckily, my car was right there and I was able to sit in it with the AC drinking water to cool down! Thankfully, I was sharing a space with Stacey - She gave me a Gatorade and that helped me feel a whole lot better in no time!

There was a lot to look at between the fancy cars and pin-up worthy dresses the ladies were wearing. The bands were playing and everyone had the daddy-o vibe. Too bad that vibe didn't foster too many shoppers! There were plenty of looky-loos throughout the day. Fortunately, there were just enough shoppers to make it worth the time and effort!

My sister, Angel, was sweet enough to watch my booth while Chris & I walked around and drooled over the cars!

While we vended, we danced a little to the music, posed for some pictures with J (who was in the booth right next to us), and just took it all in. Before I knew it, it was the end of the night: time to pack up and go home! Thank you Miss Shonda for allowing me to participate! Thank you to Stacey for helping me survive the heat! Thanks to Angel & Mari for helping me vend! And Thank You always to my Chris for always helping me transport my goodies to every show!

Heartbreak

Back in May I had been really happy to make a couple of sales on Etsy.
I sold this bracelet to my cousin, Gracie.
She paypaled me and I mailed the package off. A couple weeks ago I get an email from her asking if I had sent the bracelet. I told her I had sent it to the address she had given me.
It just never showed up! It should have reached her well over a month ago!
Sigh!
Now I must gather together similar pieces to recreate this bracelet for her.
I wish I knew where it ended up!

On a more heartbreaking note, I just watched The Dark Knight!
Heath Ledger did an amazingly demented role as The Joker!
If you haven't seen it, put it on the top of your list!
If you have seen it, you know what I'm talking about!
Too bad, he can't amaze me in any further roles!
Double Sigh!

The artists of the Scary Art Collective will be presenting their book, "Curious Band of Artists" at the Brick House Gallery (2837 36th Street -On the corner of 36th & Broadway) in Sacramento. This is the perfect opportunity to collect their incredible artwork without having to break the bank! ;)

And Finally: Park Your Art!

Walk the 2nd Saturday Grid and visit me at McMartin Realty! I will be there with fellow Mafiosa, Sophia selling fun, funky and eclectic jewelry! Hope to see the locals there! ;)

July's 2nd Saturday

(Taken from the SCM Blog)

If you haven't check out the 2nd Saturday Park Your Art event at McMartin Realty, you really should. It's a hub of wonderful finds by hardworking, handcrafting local artisans. You can always find a member or few from the Sacramento Craft Mafia there selling their wares because it's such a fun venue and there's always so much to see both inside and outside of the building.
Sophia Albov of Simply Strands and Lorrain Garcia of Rain's Embellishments will most definitely be representing the SCM and selling their beautiful jewelry. So, come out, take in some art and shop!

Sex and the City Movie Day Pictures!

So as you might of guessed, I LOVED Sex and the City The Movie! I actually planned a girls day to have brunch, watch the movie, and party. The night before I made party favors and special SatC cupcakes! Chocolate with whipped cream cheese frosting and pink sprinkles, of course!

On movie day I woke up and put on my party dress to go downtown to meet the girls (Me, My Mom Kathy, My bf Amanda, her mom Debi, and my Godmother Donna) ! We were going to eat at the River City Brewing Company but had to wait for them to open, so we shopped around Macy's for a while. To stay with our theme for the day, we perused the shoes, purses, and jewelry. Finally the brewery opened and we had our first round of Cosmos for the day!

Yummy & Delicious!

Debi enjoying her Cosmo

Then I passed out my party favors: pink martini glasses! Inside was a "Carrie" flower, a pearl & pink crystal bracelet, and a Party Girl Mad Lib!

(I love this picture!)

Amanda & her Mad Lib

Mom putting on her flower

Donna smiling

We ate, wrote out our Mad Libs, laughed our butts off and drank a couple rounds of Cosmos. Then we went to watch the movie! OMG! I loved it! I laughed, I cried....I laughed harder and cried a bit more! Afterward, we took pictures by the Downtown Plaza Carousel:

Me & Amanda

Amanda & Debi

We headed back to my casa when we were done taking pictures. We ate cupcakes, had cheese & crackers, as well as a salad! Amanda mixed up more Cosmos and we played the Sex and the City Trivia Game. The ladies started getting upset with me because I knew all the answers...I just spent the previous two weeks watching all six seasons of SatC! (I know! I'm a nerd!) When all was said and done, my mom and I (very inebriated) went for a swim!

So there you have it! My "Sex" day in a nutshell! (pun intended! =p)

Guilty Pleasure

Over the past couple months at The Bead Shoppe, I've had several customers ask "Have you seen the new Lucky Brand Jewelry?"... Or "Do you have Peace Signs?...
Sadly, our peace signs were few and I had not seen the jewelry...that is until a few weeks ago! That was when I eyeballed some awesome hammered peace earrings. Unfortunately when I went to buy them this past week they were gone! However there was this awesome bracelet:

Personally, it's a bit plain for my style. If you know me, you know that I like color! So I contemplated the bracelet for a while and decided that I would buy it, take out two links to make hammered peace sign earrings and throw some colorful beads to make it a bracelet uniquely me!

Sadly, the earrings did not turn out how I wanted them to look! I practically killed one of them! I was successful in making a fun spruced up bracelet! :

I've worn it everyday this week! It was a guilty pleasure purchase because I bought corporate jewelry...but I did add some fun elements, so it wasn't all bad was it?

Craftaluma!

I woke up in the wee hours Sunday to make the trek to Petaluma. Sleepy eyed my mom (Kathy), Chris (the bf) and I piled into the car for our journey to Craftaluma.

I had spent the whole week leading up to this event madly making piece after piece of jewelry just so that I would have "enough" goodies on my table. That meant many a bead session awake until 2, 3 or even 4 in the morning! I actually forced myself to sleep around 2 on Sunday morning just to be awaken by my alarm at 6:45. Now I realize this is the time most are already awake by daily, but I usually sleep until 8:30/8:45 and then get ready for work! And I digress...

So we're on the road! Around the time we reach Marine World (I still call it that...it's really Discovery Kingdom now) my mom switches driving with Chris so that he can complete our drive to our destination. We get to Petaluma driving through the country past wineries, pumpkin patches, and other farmland then through the downtown area. I see a bead store, but sadly, it's not open at 10am on a Sunday! :( Chris notices the Mystic Theater, comments about a couple of his favorite artists he knows have played there. And we keep a look-out for the address to the Vet's Hall! We finally spot it and drive around to the parking area where we can unload!

We get there about the same time as all the other vendors. Everyone walking to and fro from their cars to the hall. We find our table and begin to unload when one of the Petaluma Craft Mafia ladies notices my necklace (I was wearing a pretty polymer clay skull creation Miss Shonda had made). I told her my friend in the Sac Craft Mafia had made it. Then she realizes that I'm in the Sac Craft Mafia and runs over to give me a hug and introduces herself. It was Cheryl of Moxieville, and she couldn't be any sweeter! She made sure I knew about the breakfast snacks they had for the vendors and to let her know if I needed anything! I thanked her then went to work on my table!

Set-up usually goes fairly quickly for me, but I had an 8ft. table to load up with Rain's Embellishments! Luckily my mom and made some purses and my sister had made greeting art cards to help fill up some space! Here's a pic of how it looked:

Thanks for the bunny ears mom! Anywho... after I was finished setting up I had a few moments to look around at all the other vendors tables! It's always so much fun to see what other people create! I found a couple of fun things and bought them right away! (***It's going to take me another blog to show you all the fun goodies I bought/traded***)

Then the flood gates opened! Putting free swag for early birds on the advertisements assured that people would show up on time! I was close to the entrance which meant a lot of people were lookie-loos for a while so that they could filter through to the the rest of the show. After a bit I got some sales and even some of my family stopped by for a visit!

One of the lovely ladies of the PCM

One of the bands that played

My Uncle Danny, Auntie Jessie, Quinn & Ian

It was a fun show! A couple bands played and had fun with the crowd... I got several offers to do the Dia de los Muertos show in Petaluma after people noticed all my calavera/skull necklaces & earrings (not to forget my cute pink sugar skull dress my mom made for me!)! I did some shopping and made some more sales! Then business trickled down to a crawl! So I did some socializing and left my table in the care of Chris & my mom.

As the show came to an end I was brave enough to ask a few vendors if they wanted to trade goodies! This has to be one of my favorite parts about art craft shows! As above mentioned, I'll write another blog to show you all the fun things I walked away with! I will show you my last trade-off - which was my colorful owl necklace to Cheryl!

Then it was time to pack up all my things and head back to Sacramento! I did pause for a moment and chat with my fellow Mafiosas before it was time to go! We chatted about doing future shows together and to keep in touch! Then my crew and I went home! Once home I made my last sale of the day to my roommate, Kendall!

Thanks to everyone who stopped by to visit and buy some RE goodness! Thank you to the wonderful ladies of the Petaluma Craft Mafia! And a HUGE THANKS always to my mom, Angel, and Chris for always being there to help me out!

A Poem: Rain

A Special thanks to Kendall for finding this poem!!! :
"Rain"
by Shel Silverstein
I opened my eyes
And looked up at the rain,
And it dripped in my head
And flowed into my brain,
And all that I hear as I lie in my bed
Is the slishity-slosh of the rain in my head.
I step very softly,
I walk very slow,
I can't do a handstand
--I might overflow,
So pardon the wild crazy thing I just said
--I'm just not the same since there's rain in my head.

Sugarbaby Foster Care

Last week my Mafia sister, Melody, sent out a message asking for help decorating "Sugarbabies" for her etsy shop. Her goal is to raise money to donate to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF); and put and end to type 1 diabetes.

I agreed to "adopt" a few of these babies and show them some love! Here's what they look like now:

I have plans on how to make them cuter (not that they aren't already) for permanent adoption! I'll be sure to post some post-decorating pictures later!

I've also joined her team for walking at the JDRF event. We'll be walking starting from the West Steps of the State Capitol, Sacramento, CA on October 05, 2008. You can find out more and sign up at: http://walk.jdrf.org/walker.cfm?id=87040931 Or if you don't want to walk, but would like to make a donation, you can go to my walk central page to help out. Thank You in advance!

Much Love,
Rain
