Indie Sacramento is Coming!

Indie Sacramento will be on December 6th this year! The location has just been announced to be at 2409 J Street (previously the Bicycle Chef building) Midtown Sacramento.

Doors will be open from 10am - 6pm. There will be a $2.00 admission fee or $1 with a canned food item! Children 12 and under are free! The first 150 visitors through the doors will receive a free swag bag full of goodies from the vendors at the show! Also, there will be free crafts for the kids, a fashion show, door prizes, and refreshments!

I was vending with my girls Shonda & Sophia today over at Sara Jane & Co. for Dia de los Muertos when something exciting happened... Sara Jane offered to let me place some of my jewelry for sale in her shop!!! So not only can you purchase my jeweled goodness in my etsy shop, you can also shop for it in person in downtown Sacramento! Thank you so much Sara Jane!!!

Hand Born is Coming!

Yes, Ladies & Gents, it's time for Hand Born! (Yay! *Thunderous Applause*) This is a show that is very near and dear to my heart because it's the first show I ever vended at as a businesswoman! It was an awesome experience selling my jewelry, dancing to a live band, and meeting new and wonderfully crafty artists! I love this show so much I make sure I attend every year!

All Hail the PunK RoCk PrOm KING!!!

Saturday night was Punk Rock Prom with Flogging Molly! Our local radio station KWOD was having a contest for prom king and queen. So Chris & I got all dressed up (I wore a pink sugar skull dress my mom made, and Chris wore a matching vest that I did...along with me liberty spiking his hair) and entered the contest! After mingling with friends for a bit we headed back to the KWOD tent to see how we ranked. Unfortunately they were not judging by couples...and I did not rank within the top three gals! Fortunately, Chris did rank within the top three guys!

So they teamed up three guys with three gals and then walked them up to the stage for the competition. They got scored by the crowd. Whoever got the largest amount of cheers won! Chris & his partner had the most crowd response & won the $500 prize along with being crowned! Unfortunately, Chris' spiked hair made it impossible for him to wear his crown. So I got to wear it for the night!

Stretch Bracelet Tutorial

Here's a fun an easy stringing project that anyone can do!

First, gather your supplies!
You will need:
Beads
Elastic
A Piece of Tape
Glue or Clear Nail Polish
A Piece of Felt or Towel (to lay out your beads to keep them from rolling)

Attach a piece of tape to the end of your elastic. That way, you won't accidentally loose your beads while you string.

You can string your beads in a randomly ...

Or you can string your beads in a pattern.

String on enough beads to comfortably fit around your wrist.

Once you have all your beads strung, take the ends together and tie them in a Square Knot. Add a dab of glue or clear nail polish on your knot to hold it in place.
(*Warning: Do not use hot glue from a glue gun because it will melt your elastic!
Also, do not use super glue because it will dry our your elastic
and possibly make your beads yucky!*)
Wait for the glue to dry then trim off your ends.

Voila! You know have a finished bracelet!

Walk to Cure Diabetes

Like last year, I've joined my friend, Melody's, team to raise funds for the Walk to Cure Diabetes. Her son, Christian, got diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 11! Since then it has become her goal to put an end to this disease!

We're a little over a week away from the Walk to Cure Diabetes here in Sacramento, CA. The Sugarcube Society Team will be out in full force, showing our love for diabetics and our disgust with the effects of this disease.

Passing out Postcards

Today I decided would be a good day to pass out some postcards for the upcoming Craftoberfest show! I parked by L & 18th, got my parking pass (for the maximum time allowed) and went on my way. Most of the nearby businesses were really friendly, and let me add my cards to their ever-growing stacks! Others just let me drop off a couple for their employees to see. New Spectacles!

I've been really bad, and haven't been to the optometrist in well over four years! For whatever reason I just put it off and put it off. Needless to say, I was well overdue!
So I finally made an appointment and got a new prescription. I decided to get both glasses (for distance) and sunglasses!




Since I got a much stronger prescription, my eyes have been giving me a hard time readjusting! I've had to keep aspirin by my side to help quell the headaches! Hopefully, I'll be re-acclimated soon! In the meantime, I'm just thankful that I am able to see a bit better than I was before!

The Sacramento Craft Mafia is putting on a show in three weekends called Craftoberfest. They will be offering upcycled tshirt totes to the first 100! Claire and I are in charge of making these bags. I have quite a few shirts that I have been hanging onto and the rest we will be getting from a thrift store. Below is the first one I made and am sooo happy with it, I am going to be keeping it! It was also made from one of my all time favorite shirts. The shirt reads “God Save America”. The bags will be stuffed with goodies, but I think the shirt tote pretty much sells itself! Stop by 1015 20th St Sacramento, Ca on October 11th from 10-4 and be one of the 100 to nab one of these!

Meet a Crafter! - Craftoberfest!

To gear you up and get you excited about Craftoberfest we will be featuring some of our sellers on the blog in the next coming weeks. We have 27 people selling at this event with a wide range of items that all will enjoy!

To get it started I'd like you to meet Cris of Skeletal Drop Kick!

Living in the Sacramento area, Cris tends to be a tad overwhelmed by the ordinary at times. By releasing her inner monsters, she is able to produce many cephalopods and critters to make room for new stuff in her head. Her latest materials of choice are yarn and ceramic. All of her clay is fired to the astounding temperature of 2350 degrees F, making them stinking sturdy and fantastically wonderful. Her glazes are all handmade and her pieces are thrown on the wheel and then altered to appear a bit more like they do in her head. Her crochet cephalopods are done when she cannot get her hands on some clay. They are all her own original design and actually, she doesn't work from a pattern which explains why they don't all look exactly alike. For more information, please visit her Etsy store!

It's Coming!

What is? Craftoberfest of course! The Sacramento Craft Mafia will infiltrate the News and Review parking lot on Saturday, October 11th from 10am - 4pm.
